We recently stayed at the Thomas Shepherd Inn in Shepherdstown and had an absolutely outstanding experience.

The inn itself is beautiful, comfortable, and incredibly accommodating, but what truly sets it apart is the hospitality of the owners. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel welcomed and cared for like family.

I especially appreciated the kindness they showed to my son throughout our stay. After a long, cold, and soaking-wet day riding on the C&O Canal train, we checked-in to the inn exhausted. Without hesitation, they made him a homemade hot chocolate that was simply amazing and exactly what he needed. It was such a thoughtful gesture that meant far more than they probably realize. And the next morning, they went out of their way to accommodate him at breakfast and made sure he had options he enjoyed.

The owners genuinely care about their guests and consistently go above and beyond to make your stay special. Their attention to detail, warmth, and personal touch transformed what would have been a great stay into a truly memorable one.

If you're looking for a place to stay in Shepherdstown, I cannot recommend the Thomas Shepherd Inn highly enough. Fantastic accommodations, exceptional hospitality, and some of the kindest innkeepers you'll ever meet. We will absolutely be back.

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the Thomas Shepherd Inn. Mike and Jen, the owners, were so friendly, welcoming, and thoughtful. Each morning, they serve locally baked bagels and breads, other breakfast goodies, fancy tea, and some of the best Keurig coffee I've ever had. In the afternoons, they put out snacks. When I mentioned casually that it was our ten-year anniversary, they gave us a little anniversary treat with a rose and a beautiful note that said Happy Anniversary and that had both of our names. The hotel is also charming, with ample indoor and outdoor spaces to socialize and relax. But, I think the best thing about the inn might be its location. It's within walking distance of all the local shops and restaurants you will want to visit in Shepherdstown. One of the fun things about the town is also that the local shopkeepers also know Mike and Jen, and everyone seems supportive of one another. It was the best place to stay for my ten-year anniversary. I can't recommend the Thomas Shepherd Inn highly enough.

Dave and I were there to celebrate our 5-year anniversary. It was so lovely. The room was beautiful and the bed was so comfortable. Toiletries were provided if we needed them. The breakfast provided was homemade. I especially loved the banana bread. One of the best parts of it was our conversations with Mike and Jen. I felt like I was talking to my old friends. They were so nice and accommodating. They had great recommendations for things to see in town. The location of the Inn was perfect. We could walk everywhere. I highly recommend the Thomas Shepherd Inn and we will definitely stay again the next time we are in town.

Jen and Mike were wonderful hosts who truly went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed throughout our stay. One of our favorite moments was enjoying drinks in the evening on the back porch, which overlooks a peaceful and beautifully maintained backyard—such a perfect way to end the day.

The location couldn’t be better. Situated right on Main Street, the inn is within easy walking distance of all the downtown shops and restaurants, making it incredibly convenient to explore the area.

Breakfast was another highlight—delicious and enjoyable, especially paired with great conversation with the inn owners and fellow guests. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and we would absolutely stay here again.

The Thomas Shepherd Inn was the perfect location for a stay in Shepherdstown to explore the town, bike on the C&O Canal, and learn more about the area. The new owners were responsive and helpful in every way. My room was comfortable, quiet and clean...all the things I look for in lodging. The location is perfect—I walked to a fantastic meal and strolled down the charming main drag of Shepherdstown after breakfast. The C&O Canal is just a few minutes and the Inn's owners pointed out that they provide locked bike storage and pumps for tires. Just what I needed! I'll be back for sure!
