I was on my way to Harper's Ferry, which I've been to quite a few times, when I saw a sign for this park and took a detour instead. I didn't have a ton of time to explore, but walked along part of the AT that there was access to. There was still a bit of snow, but it was a beautiful day and there was a ton of life peeking through the winter. It was a very cool spot and would be great for trail running. The trail had roots and minor obstacles, but that's what excites me about trail running. There was a decent amount of parking as well.

Gathland State Park is a beautiful historic site perfect for a family outing in nature. The park offers trails branching in three directions, providing plenty of variety for hikers. For a scenic loop, head North on the Appalachian Trail, take your first right onto the blue-blazed trail, and make a final right turn near the water source to complete the circuit.

Ample parking on both sides

Picnic shelter, driving water faucet, restroom. I have found the restrooms are occasionally closed, but there were potter potty.

Great place to pick up the AT. Great place for a picnic. It's small and quiet and beautiful.

Beautiful park with lots of historical buildings and a great monument to war correspondents. This was my rest break on my first section hike of the AT it had a water source and bathrooms so an extra bonus.

So pretty. Trails are well kept. A bit rocky on our particular trail but a treasure trove of fungus greeted us along our path. Look forward to visiting this magical spot again 🪷
