While taking a break from the DC area, we enjoy going to Alexandria to get seafood and not pay DC prices. This trip brought us to The Fish Market, as we have tried several other places over the decades.

The place is much larger than it looks and has indoor, outdoor, upstairs, and bar area seating. We were seated immediately, and our server was the sweetest lady but not really conversational when we asked questions about the area or the meal. She had no other tables but might not be her personality, which is fine.

Knowing we wanted ice cream, we declined drinks, but the bar and its menu were pretty extensive. When we ordered, we landed on the fresh fish tacos and one of the best seafood linguines I’ve ever had. The sauce was light and didn’t puddle at the bottom and was served with scallops, white fish, mussels, and shrimp. The fresh broccoli and grated Parmesan topped off an incredible choice of pasta!

At the end of the day, we will continue to try other places in Old Town, but as long as they have that pasta
dish, The Fish Market will always be in the running for a return trip!

good atmosphere, food was good but not worth the premium price.
would not recommend the fried chicken.
fish and chips, lobster linguine, ahi tacos were all delicious.

service was the biggest issue, extremely slow and unnatentive, no nametags either so I can't point out exactly who,
but the staff would often stand around and stare at us while we needed water or waited for our checks.🙄
(maybe because we're sitting outside??)

Been checking this place for a couple decades now every once in a while.

It offers nice old school sea food restaurant experience with classical dishes.

Fresh oysters and lobster bisque were great as usual.

Love the expansion to an outdoor patio up front. They got plenty of space with 2 floors, but seating outside in a middle of a spring in a beautiful weather is just what we wanted.

Very disappointed with this restaurant. First time trying the Fish Market. I didnt dine in, I order for pickup on my lunch break. I have to say while I was there to pick up my food the place was too dark inside the restaurant. Being that I wasnt dining it, that wasnt my concern. My issue was the food itself. The only thing that was good was the hush puppies. I got the fried gulf shrimp and it tasted horrible. The presentation of the meal in the container was not to my liking. For $27.99 that I paid, i would gather the food would be more pleasant. I thought the fries would be inside the container along with my shrimp. No, instead it was inside a cup(giving five guys vibes) inside of a paperbag. With that being said, that will be my first and last time going to the Fish Market.

We loved the outdoor seating option along King Street, the server was kind and attentive, the menu had many great food options. However, from all the dishes we ordered, only the calamari was tasty and worth its price. The fish sandwich was fried for too long and was pretty dry, the crab soup didn’t really taste much like crab and more like a normal minestrone, the Ahi tuna poke bowl was very underwhelming and reminded me more of a mayonnaise-heavy Russian salad with rice. The kids got an activity sheet, but they were out of pens/crayons, and the chocolate milk was out, too. For fruit, they got canned fruit in a plastic cup - kind of sad. I don’t know… we wanted to like this place, we love seafood, but this restaurant did not meet our expectations and we left bummed about how much money we spent there.
