Well maintained trails leading from River Road to the C&O Canal and the Potomac River. Many trails are for hiking only but some are for hiking and equestrian travel. Trails have excellent signage and markings. Several bridges exist, crossing streams. I suggest you keep a trail map on your phone or in your pocket, it just makes it easier. There are no restrooms. There are two parking lots, a small one for about 4-5 cars at the intersection of River Road and Pettit Way, and one further up that is much larger. Great for taking kids on nature walks. I came here to go birdwatching and saw several great warblers and other birds.

Beautiful area to hike. Definitely bring hiking shoes and use caution As the trail has some steep drops with loose gravel So it’s easy to lose your footing

Wonderful park. I spent 2 hours hiking around and I was quite nice. One of trails is just the clearing made for pipeline access, which is meh, but there r plenty of pretty wildflowers growing in that open space. The trails are narrow and somewhat overgrown in many spots. I enjoy that, but It does make them less accessible. There are some unofficial footpaths along the canal if you wanna make it experience more rigorous. My pup and I found some nice rocks to climb which was challenging and fun.

Beautiful trails through forests to some stunning views of the Potomac River. The Canyon trail is an out and back down a hill then back up. The Blockhouse Trail will take you to the overlook (and is used by a good number of horses). It also started getting pretty full of hikers around noon.
