I recently photographed a wedding at the National Arboretum in Washington, DC, and wow - what an incredible place to get married. I’ve worked at a lot of venues in the city, but this one immediately stood out. The mix of nature, open space, and those iconic Capitol Columns creates a setting that feels both grand and peaceful at the same time. Everywhere you turn, there’s a beautiful backdrop waiting to be photographed.

What I loved most is how relaxed the whole day felt. There’s so much room to breathe, wander, and celebrate without feeling crowded or rushed. The staff was easy to work with, the light was gorgeous all day, and the couple truly got to be present - which is all you ever want on your wedding day.

If you’re looking for a DC venue that feels like a hidden escape but is still right in the city, the National Arboretum is honestly a dream. I’d photograph weddings there again in a heartbeat.

A wonderful place to spend as much or as little time as you want. There’s plenty of places to park to walk around, or you can drive to the different areas and get out. Great place to read, have a picnic, or just explore.

We had a relaxing and quiet walk amongst blooming cherry trees and others, and enjoyed the bonsai trees on display. It's a great place to escape the crowds and enjoy plants and trees. I do miss the many koi they had some years ago. One problem at this moment that needs to be taken care of, and to be aware of: The outside of some of the buildings are swarming with carpenter bees. They don't seem interested in humans or aggressive, but take care.

Very impressed to the pavilions, esp the Chinese one. Lots of bonsais while most of them are over 50 years old. Reception is very nice and helpful. Recommend to visit during spring time not summer time as it’s too hot and most of the blooming season is over. Good place for picnic. Better to drive there though public transportation is also a good option.

Even in the winter months the arboretum is wonderful. We enjoyed the bonsai and penjing gardens and a lovely walk around the grounds and gardens in late November. Can't wait to go back in the spring to see everything budding and blooming. Great place for kids, dogs, young, and old to wander. Restrooms in the visitors center and arbor house are open, not sure about the other restrooms during winter.
