This park is a true wonder. There's an amazingly varied amount of wildlife and a lot of old relics from the days when parts of the park were lived-in and/or industrious. The Hudson is a beaute wherever you can lay eyes on it, but you don't get the accompanying serenity you get here in many other parts of it's span. Just a great place to get lost in nature while still being close to the hustle & bustle.

Absolutely stunning park along the Hudson! Gorgeous cliffside views alongwith the views of the Hudson river itself, peaceful trails, and perfect spots for a picnic or riverside walk.

I had a great time visiting Palisades Interstate Park! The views overlooking the Hudson River are incredible, those cliffs are stunning up close. I walked a bit along the Shore Trail and enjoyed how peaceful it felt, especially with the sound of the water right beside the path. It’s a nice mix of shade, scenery, and spots to stop and take photos.

The lookout points along the drive were beautiful too. Each one gives a different perspective of the river and the city in the distance. It’s amazing how quickly you can go from a busy area to such a quiet, natural escape.

🥾 Hiking in Palisades Interstate Park — Long Path North to Peanut Leap & Giant Stairs Attempt (June 2025).
We hiked yesterday in Palisades Interstate Park, starting on Long Path North and reaching the Peanut Leap Cascade. The trail was beautiful — peaceful forest, clean air, birds singing. A perfect break from city life.
⚠️ The descent and climb to the waterfall was steep and challenging, with rocks and tree roots. Proper hiking shoes and caution are a must.
At the waterfall, we took a relaxing break, enjoyed the sound of the water, had snacks, and took some nice photos 📸. Then our friends suggested continuing on to the Giant Stairs section.
The trail quickly became very difficult — big boulders, steep climbing, even needing hands to balance. Since we had a 12 y.o.daughter and a friend’s husky, we decided it was safer to turn back.
💵 Parking is paid (up to $20/day) — online.
🌿 A stunning hike overall, but definitely not beginner-friendly beyond the waterfall. If you're hiking with children or pets, plan your route carefully.
🦅 At the end of our hike, we stopped at the overlook where birdwatchers gathered to watch eagles soaring and flying out of the cliffs — a truly amazing sight to end the day.
