Boscobel House and Gardens is a historic house museum in Garrison, New York, overlooking the Hudson River. The estate was originally built by States Dyckman. It is considered a significant example of the Federal style of American architecture. Arguably the estate has the best view of the Hudson River in the region. Nearby you can see the West Point Campus, Constitution Island, Bear Mountain Bridge, and wetlands.
On April 16, 2024 a major ceiling at the Basocobel estate collapsed, causing damage to the interior of the house. The house has recently been reopened for tours, renovations are nearly complete, and it looks great. Each tour at the house lasts about an hour and is packed with information. You will also want to spend time outdoors in the gardens and woodland hiking trails that the estate offers.
One of the more unique architectural features of the house is the carved wooden swag in the shape of drapery located over the balcony on the second floor. Most of the furniture in the house is not original to it. Several members of the Dyckman family lived in the house until the early 20th Century, when the house fell into disrepair. In the 1950’s the house was restored into what we see today.
It is easy to purchase tickets online for tours of the estate. A tour pass also allows you to walk the grounds, gardens, and woodland trails. Again, the view here is spectacular and should not be missed. The staff and tour guides here were friendly and knowledgeable. Altogether, this is a historic Hudson Valley estate that offers a great experience.

We love Boscobel and have been huge fans since our first visit in 2023. Every season offers something unique and special.

We started with a classic house tour and a stroll around the grounds on an unseasonably warm December day — and were instantly hooked.

The Summer Symphony series was unforgettable: music on the lawn, picnic in hand, as the sun set over (in my opinion) the most beautiful view of the Hudson River. Absolute magic.

Most recently, the Bridgerton event healed my 13-year-old heart — learning court dances from Queen Charlotte herself, with live music and a performance by Hudson Valley’s own incredible Carla and Jim Keyes, was beyond special.

We’re now members, and Boscobel is starting to feel like home. We’re excited for eagle watches and the upcoming lantern show!

And the staff — deserving of a standing ovation. Every single person we’ve encountered has been warm, gracious, and astonishingly knowledgeable. They bring the history to life with such pride, passion, and genuine joy that it transforms a visit into an experience. You can feel how deeply they care about this magical place, and it makes all the difference.

The gardens are stunning and very well maintained. Very classy with a garden party/ country club elegance. Boscobel overlooks beautiful marsh lands with a trail which you can hike.

We had a great tour of the house led by Steven who was very engaging and informed about the history, context and materials of the house. The art by Alison McNulty is evocative and adds an edge of perspective to the experience. The house tour engaged my 7 and 11 year old children and the house has modern day AC! Great experience all around.

Wow best view of the Hudson River for sure. Just the view alone is worth it. There was a wedding going on when I came. Nice place to visit if there was an event going on. Stayed maybe about 40 to 45 min. It was a Jewish wedding.
