Hudson River Museum Celebrates 250 Years of Commerce

The Hudson River Maritime Museum in Kingston, NY, will host Hudson Valley 250 & Beyond: Corridor of Commerce Day on Saturday, October 3. This free public event will celebrate the Hudson River’s enduring role in shaping the communities and industries of the Hudson Valley.From shipbuilding and canal commerce to ice harvesting, transportation, and lighthouse keeping, the Hudson River has long been a vital corridor connecting people, goods, and ideas. Activities include free museum tours and rides aboard HRMM’s solar-powered tour boat Solaris. Details

Demolition of the Central Warehouse

Work began in September to tear down the historic, 11-floor concrete Central Warehouse in Albany, removing a long-standing "symbol of decay" from the Hudson River skyline. Crews are currently removing a rail bridge connecting the facility to an Amtrak spur. Built in 1927 by the New York Central Railroad, the Albany Central Warehouse became known as an iconic eyesore after it was abandoned in the early 1990s. It is located near the Corning Preserve and Amtrak's Livingston Avenue Bridge across the Hudson. Details

Gateway Tunnel Project Back on Track

The federal government dropped an appeal that had previously frozen critical funding for the $16 billion Hudson Gateway Tunnel project. Concurrently, a wrongful death lawsuit was filed against New York City by the family of a construction worker who suffered a fatal fall at the project site. Details

More Fallout from the Sewage Discharge at Yonkers

Health officials are continuing to investigate the malfunction of the Yonkers wastewater treatment plant that resulted in tens of millions of gallons of wastewater pouring into the river. Current focus is on the loss of power to the plant that was from a voltage reduction by regional utility Con Edison. Details
