Largest Toxic Algal Bloom in 40 Years--A large harmful algal bloom (HAB) has been detected in the Hudson River, stretching between Kingston and Staatsburg and extending into other tributaries. Researchers from the Cary Institute have described the extent of the Microcystis bloom as "unprecedented," with environmental groups warning the public to avoid contact with the affected water. New Water Quality Portal--The environmental group Hudson Riverkeeper has launched an interactive online portal to track the Hudson River's water quality, including data on sewage contamination, fish safety, and swimming advisories. Gateway Hudson Tunnel Project Advances-- Construction on the new Hudson Tunnel Project is moving forward, with tunnel boring machines scheduled to launch next year.
