On the weekend of 4th of July, I decided to embark on a mini road trip starting with Turkey Point in Saugerties, NY. I brought all my camping and fishing gear. The drive was easy to get there. The hike in was all downhill. I setup camp and used my jetboil to cook up some fresh ground coffee beans and food for myself. While I was here, I caught a beautiful black small mouth bass! However, the hike out was extremely difficult. I kept having to stop every 10 ft. I was carrying about 60 lbs of gear. The elevation is extreme in a short 1-2 mile hike. This is for experienced hikers due to the extremely strenuous nature of hiking back out. It was nearly vertical and felt like I was climbing Mt. Everest. Overall, it was a great experience and I’m very satisfied with the fishing opportunities at this location. Not for kids, must be physically fit and have experience in tough elevation hikes. Would highly recommend trekking poles.
