The USGS river gage at Cameron Run in Alexandria, Virginia (site number 01653000) monitors streamflow and water levels in this urban watershed. Operated in cooperation with the City of Alexandria, the gage provides real-time data that helps track flooding risks, stormwater impacts, and long-term hydrologic trends. Cameron Run drains an area of about 33.9 square miles, and the gage records measurements such as discharge, stage height, and peak streamflow events. Positioned near Eisenhower Avenue, it plays a critical role in flood forecasting and water resource management for the surrounding community. The data collected supports both scientific research and practical planning, offering insights into how rainfall, land use, and development affect local waterways.

Federal and state agencies maintain river level monitors throughout the Potomac River Basin. The U.S.Geological Survey compiles real-time information from river monitors, in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
