Nice place for a walk. People do bring their dogs here unfortunately. No public restrooms either but there is a picnic pavilion and free parking. Plenty of birds and trees along the paved paths.

Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge was incredibly peaceful and calming. The wide open marshes and quiet water views made it feel like a true escape from everything. I spent a lot of time just walking slowly and watching birds, enjoying how still and open the landscape felt. What I liked most was how uncrowded it was. The trails and observation areas were quiet, and it was easy to just stop, listen to the wind, and take in the scenery. It’s not flashy, but that’s what makes it special — it’s simple and naturally beautiful.

My wife and I stumbled upon this refuge during a very rainy weekend. Frankly, since we were there for nature, we weren't off to a great start, but that changed when we went to the visitor center. Carol and John, two volunteers for the refuge, went above and beyond for us. Not only did they point us to the best places for various birds, but they gave us a ton of advice, lent us equipment, and even drove us to see a rare bird! The area itself was beautiful despite the weather, but the kindness of these volunteers salvaged our entire day. Stop by, learn a few things, and go check out these beautiful trails and their inhabitants!

Beautiful vista, with lots of marsh water, reeds, and birds. They have boardwalks where you can set up your camera or observe the many many birds that are in this location. The walks are relatively short but I suppose you could go as far as you choose. I went there for the bird watching but the peaceful setting is worth a trip right off of Route 1
