The woman at the entrance wasn’t very friendly, but everyone else we met was wonderful—especially the staff at the zoo. The park itself is well maintained, much better than some others I’ve been to. That said, the wooden benches by the zoo restrooms are pretty worn down and not the safest to sit on. The highlight of our visit was definitely the zoo, where you can feed the donkeys, goats, and sheep. Since we went on a Saturday, we also got to check out the farmers market. There were lots of great finds and food trucks/stands. We ended up bringing home some wine and syrup, but next time we’ll definitely be back for the fresh produce.

Forest Park beautifully blends natural serenity with vibrant community attractions, offering peaceful lakes and wooded trails alongside memorable seasonal light displays and events. It’s a standout destination in Springfield that feels both relaxing and celebratory, perfect for quiet reflection or family outings year-round.

Great place for family and friends. This place was created by a genius. Mr. Everett Barney was a brilliant inventor. What made him rich was not weapons, vehicles, or hi-tech gear. He became rich because humans like to have fun. Barney created a type of ice-skate blade that adjusts to the shoes you are wearing. He sold them so cheap that they became popular all across the nation until eventually it was an international sensation. He created Forest Park from his earnings which is why he is the buried there. Because of his park Dr.Suess got to see wild animals up close. The Forest Park Zoo is where Dr. Guess got his inspiration for the animals in his children's books. Today the zoo acts as a place where failed rehabilitions and abandoned pets are cared for. There are still wolves, wallabies, bobcats, capybaras, camels, cockatoos, macaws, iguanas, and an alligator. The kids can feed the goats, ponies, donkeys, and sheep. The peacocks walk as free as the chickens. It is a nice place to spend with your loved ones.

We were here for bright lights as guests. It was a good show, better than we were expecting. Take the time to go to the gift shop area. Expensive gifts but you can see the lights up close and not from your car. Gives you a great sense of scale. Otherwise, I can't really comment about the park.
