A tranquil little park & walking / biking path that follows the CT. river with a canal on the opposite side of the trail and an old decommissioned water lock still in place. The trail is a paved path that has mile markers along the way and heads south for about 5 miles. There are boards in place for your dog to walk across the grated bridge. At the parking lot there's a bike repair station for tuning or fixing your bike and a dogi-pot station as well as trash cans, port-a-potties and picnic tables with a few benches too. The Parking lot has 2 handicapped spots & room for 37 vehicles in a paved lot.

This place is amazing. But I do have to caution you about a couple of things. First to get on trail you have to cross a steel bridge that has holes in it, there is a wooden part for Dogs. My dog was scared getting him across was tuff. Second, I have seen copperheads around so you might want to keep an eye out for them. Other wise this place is awesome for hiking or biking.Did you know the fish swim up from the ocean to the dam,

Amazing place to walk or bike. The path is about 4.4 miles one-way and is marked each mile, with benches and sign posts pointing out areas of interest along the trail. It is paved and easy to walk, although the pavement has been breaking down and becoming more uneven in recent years. Still, the walk is easy and enjoyable. The CT river, Kings Island, and the canal itself bring so many beautiful sights and I've seen tons of different animals on my many visits. Towards the Windsor Locks end, there is a protected eagle nesting area and on some days if you keep an eye out, you can see bald eagles. You can walk/run, ride bicycles, and dogs are permitted.

The parking lot in Suffield is big enough to rarely be full to capacity. There is no charge for admission or parking, just park and walk.

Boy, howdy... I came out this way on the recommendation of SkyLimitChallenge, figuring I'd give it a fair shake.

If you're expecting scenic canal and river views, temper those expectations. In the 12.5 miles I walked today, I counted exactly **three** spots with any real view of the river.

What stuck with me more, unfortunately, was seeing several dogs out in the heat. I passed five in total, including one that was clearly overheated and being dragged along by its owner. I didn't notice anyone carrying water for their pups, which was disappointing to see.

The pavement could also use some love. There are enough rough sections that I was grateful I left the bike at home.

Not every trail has to be my favorite, and I'm glad I checked this one off the list... but this is one I won't be repeating.

Level paved trail with plenty of flora and fauna along the beautiful Connecticut River.
