One of the most difficult hikes I have ever encountered in the local area. I picked up a free map directly outside of the main parking area, which helped me navigate the trails. Having hiked Mount Tom numerous times, I would not recommend going without preparations for longer than expected hike times based on individual experience, and without a map which was provided to back up the potential loss of cell signal. The challenging hike is rewarded with spectacular views, but keep in mind that at least the trail I hiked is hard to pass without physical ability and awareness of what trail you are on.

I've been coming here since I was a kid and my dad worked here. Always loved the epic views and history. It's been about 7 years since I'd returned. DCR has done incredible upgrades. Clean, well groomed, fresh paint, new signs, some extra parking spots and picnic tables. I could feel my dad smiling. We hiked around for a bit and made the decision to hike the Seven Sisters from here next spring. Spending time here renews the soul. It's peaceful, almost serene. Just sitting and watching the world go by from above. Traffic, airplanes, birds all below you. It's like watching from heaven.

I thought Skinner State Park was fascinating, fun and informative. The view was superb from both the front and back of the summit. The views of the Connecticut River were are great. There was some clouds and weather systems off in the distance it was a beautiful place to watch that as well. I believe it was just under 1000 ft in elevation. Worth the stop and visit.

We had a great time hiking up to the summit house. We completed the round trip hike in about 2 hours. At the summit house, the park ranger was fantastic! He told us some basic information about the house, but did not ramble onto boredom. He stopped at the ideal time to allow for questions based on our interests. He answered our questions extremely well and was very nice. The summit house was great as well. This makes for a great adventure, either through hiking or walking.

Took the " easy way"(by walking the road) to summit from trailhead parking area. Was well cleared despite heavy leaf fall of late autumn.
Some level areas for resting if necessary.
Views of surrounding mountains and undulating river from well-maintained summit area are quite nice.
