What an amazing small airport in an amazing town! I’m a CFI and haven’t flown regularly in a few years. So I decided to get current again by adding a seaplane rating to my commercial license. Learn2FlyCT runs an awesome seaplane program that is not a 2 day gimmick or shortcut program. Carl Indriago is an awesome seaplane instructor and makes learning a new skill a ton of fun!

Goodspeed (42B) is the last of the significant Americana airports available to General Aviation. This small, quaint non-towered airport is not only beautiful with its atmosphere, directly alongside the CT River but possesses a wonderful aviator community. Goodspeed's Airport Manager Bill is excellent, not just because he's a pilot, but because he is accommodating when possible. Goodspeed's onfield aircraft mechanic, Dustin of Goodspeed Aero Craft, is fantastic, as I've witnessed him rescue outside pilots from frustrating mechanical mishaps. Goodspeed has two flight schools, Learn 2 Fly CT and North East Regional Aviation, so whether it's a complex endorsement, seaplane, or tailwheel training, there's a flight instructor available for you! Lastly, there are several reasons to fly into this majestic oasis. Within walking distance is the entertaining Goodspeed Opera House, bicycling distance is the delicious Higher Grounds at 32 Main, LaBella's Sweet Shop, and Swingbridge Fine Wine & Spirits, while on summer Fridays from 12p-6p are Fish Fry at River Valley Provisions. If you're looking for a romantic getaway weekend, check out Boardman House around the corner! Goodspeed is hands down the best-hidden airport in New England!
