Great boat launch to drop a kayak in and do some fishing. Plenty of parking, but your may want to get there early. Lots of Blackfish up river, especially around the bends. Also plenty of wildlife to see!

Place is magical! Where the CT empties into to the sound 🌊🌊🌊
From 9 south stay on the left to 95 north and From 95 north stay on the right lane and quickly take 70 until Smith neck road. Road is well paved all the way until the boat ramp. Big fancy houses all the way through(It's Old lyme after all 😊).
I was going to bring my kayak here yesterday(It was windy but 70 degrees) but I forgot two things: Bungee cords and my house keys lol. So I just ended up there watching the view of the sound and what not.
There is a decent amount of parking. I like the view from the upper parking section overlooking the boat ramp, great island, the two iconic Connecticut lighthouses(Breakwater lighthouse on the left is featured on the " Preserve The Sound " license plate and of course my beautiful Long Island 🏝❤️😍.

A little hard to find the entry road, but once we arrived at the launch there was plenty of parking and a fine launch for our kayaks. We went kayaking with friends and found the route through the marsh out to the Connecticut River just below the railroad bridge. Then we looped back by going up the Lieutenant River briefly, hanging a right turn and coming back to the launch.
Great paddle although, if we planned better we would not have been coming back against the tide. That made it a longer and more strenuous route.
The bird watching was great. We saw white herons, cormorants, osprey and others and had good photo opportunities. When we got back to the launch area we headed briefly out to the sound. This is a very interesting and scenic area in a the Roger Tory Peterson bird conservation area. A great outing. Next time will plan better to catch tides better going up and back.

Good boat launch for 12-16' boats and kayaks! The lower parking lot tends to fill up with bird watchers, even though it says it is specifically for boating and fishing purposes, so you may have to ask them to move to get your boat in or out. Very shallow at low tides so be sure to keep that in mind!
