Major tributary of the Potomac. At Poplar Point, the D.C. government has proposed a large retail, office and sports complex. Environmental groups have supported a park that would occupy the site. For more than two decades, the Navy used the site for mine research, and had more htan 90 buildlings along the Anacostia River. Concerns about toxic chemicals have held back developpment of the site.
